Policy and Industry Advocacy
PARST advocates for policies and regulatory frameworks that support responsible secondhand textile trade, textile recovery, circular economy development, waste reduction, climate action and Extended Producer Responsibility.
We engage governments, regional institutions, industry stakeholders and development partners to ensure that policies reflect the realities of Africa’s recycling and secondhand textile sector.
Capacity Building and Professional Development
We organise training programmes, workshops, conferences, seminars and technical sessions to strengthen the knowledge and professional capabilities of individuals and organisations working throughout the textile value chain.
Our programmes cover areas such as textile sorting, reuse, recycling, environmental management, business development, leadership, innovation and responsible trade practices.
Research and Knowledge Sharing
PARST promotes research and evidence-based decision-making on textile waste, recycling technologies, secondhand clothing markets, circular business models and environmental sustainability.
We provide platforms for researchers, practitioners and policymakers to share findings, experiences and practical solutions that can support the development of Africa’s textile recycling industry.
Partnerships and Networking
We connect stakeholders across countries and sectors to encourage investment, technology transfer, knowledge exchange and collaborative action.
Our events and professional networks create opportunities for members to meet industry leaders, identify new markets, form strategic partnerships and contribute to continental initiatives.
Public Education and Environmental Awareness
PARST promotes responsible consumption and encourages individuals, institutions and communities to extend the useful life of clothing and textile materials.
We support public campaigns that encourage repair, donation, reuse, upcycling and recycling rather than uncontrolled disposal, open burning or landfilling.
Entrepreneurship and Green Employment
We support the development of sustainable enterprises across textile collection, transportation, sorting, repair, redesign, resale, recycling and manufacturing.
By strengthening the sector, PARST seeks to expand green employment, improve livelihoods and create opportunities for young people, women, informal workers and small and medium-sized enterprises.
